WHAT IS NORMAL?

  •  Initially:  some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, and/or bruising.

  • During healing:  some discoloration, itching, and secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that will form some crust on the jewelry. The tissue may tighten around the jewelry as it heals.

  • Once healed:  the jewelry may not move freely in the piercing; do not force it.

  • If you fail to include cleaning your piercing as part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but smelly bodily secretions may accumulate

A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is complete. This is because tissue heals from the outside in, and although it feels fine, the interior remains fragile. Be patient, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.

** CONTACT YOUR PIERCER RIGHT AWAY IF ANYTHING FEELS UNUSUAL, DO NOT ALLOW FOR THE ISSUE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT BEING ASSESSED.**

Contact your piercer if there is any irritation, itching, swelling, bumps, or redness, no matter how much you like the way it looks.

Jewelry Aftercare *important information for clients on how to care for their jewelry*

Losing your jewelry can result in the closure of your piercing. Threaded ends should be checked for tightness daily with clean hands. Press -Fit end should be pushed together. If they come loose often, you may have a defective piece. See your piercer for options.

Keeping your jewelry debris free can be difficult depending on the location and piece chosen, but it is important to your piercing's overall health and longevity of your jewelry. A bi-monthly cleaning service is recommended for your piercings. My packages are detailed and enclosed in your aftercare package.

Suggested Aftercare Guidelines for

Ear, Nose & Navel Placements:

  • WASH your hands thoroughly before cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason.

  • Use a Packaged Sterile Saline Solution with no additives, available at our Piercing Studio or Local Pharmacy - TWICE DAILY. The solution should be held at a distance and sprayed on both entrance and exit of your piercing for a minimum of five seconds. DO NOT SPRAY DIRECTLY UP THE NOSE.

  • Allow the solution to “drip dry” or “air dry” - Do not use a towel or paper towel to wipe off the piercing site. Surrounding areas can be wiped off. USE CAUTION - as jewelry could get caught.

  • USE CAUTION: When using towels, washing with a loofah or washcloths, putting up or styling hair, and putting on/taking off glasses, masks, and clothing to avoid unwanted catching or pulling off the jewelry. Avoid high-waisted or tight clothing for navel piercings.

  • DO NOT: Twist, Turn, or Rotate the Jewelry while cleaning; as debris can be transferred into the healing piercing and cause irritation or infection.

  • DO NOT: Touch, play, sleep, or put pressure on the piercing during the healing period. We understand this may be difficult but it is crucial. If you cannot avoid sleeping on the piercing site, an airplane pillow that can be regularly cleaned can assist you in keeping pressure off the site.

  • DO NOT: Submerge your new piercing in a bathtub, swimming pool, lake, hot tub, or ocean for a minimum of FOUR WEEKS. It is not recommended to get a new piercing before going on vacation. Failure to follow this recommendation can result in many unknown complications. Your Piercer is NOT responsible for any complications related to this issue.

*Special Instructions:

NOSTRIL/SEPTUM PIERCINGS: Hard-to-remove build-up on the inside of the nose can be removed by “irrigating” the area with saline. Fill a (glass) shot glass with saline solution, place nostrils in the saline, and blow air through the nostril to cause bubbles. This will help loosen any debris that can then be gently removed. SOAK OFF DEBRIS, DO NOT PULL OFF.

Piercing Health & Recommended Maintenance
Did you know that regular cleanings are recommended for your piercing health and the overall healing process of your new and old piercings?

Bi-monthly cleaning services are the best way to ensure your piercings and jewelry stay looking and feeling their absolute best!

Replacing Jewelry After Piercing is Healed:

It is recommended that a piercer put new jewelry in for you for a small fee when changing jewelry for healed piercings. We can help you to select the right size and type of jewelry for your anatomy, and we have a sanitary environment with access to appropriate tools if needed.

My Jewelry Change Fee is $30+ tax.

If putting in new jewelry at home:

  • Make sure the piercing site, your hands, the jewelry, and your work area are clean.
  • Soak your piercing and/or lubricate the jewelry to facilitate removal and insertion, because piercings are often tight.
  • Never try to force or push your jewelry in; this can tear your tissue.
  • If the jewelry doesn’t go in easily, visit us for assistance.
